So I decided to begin with the challenge. It will take me forever and it will require a lot of work but it's what I want to do, right? Ok. So, I began with cake pops. I was supposed to begin with cupcakes but my trusty utensile, the one I am going to use instead of an oven ( because, remember, I'm scared of it), haven't arrived! So, I thought let's do some cake pops. Instead of making my own cake I bought some un-frosted, non decorated cake and there I went. I know this does not count as baking but at least I did something.
Day 1.
I went with my husband to buy supplies like chocolate, sprinkle, pop sticks, frosting and the cake. I came home and did it all. I crumbled the cake and used some Dulce de Leche as frosting. It was a big mess I will never, ever use Dulce de Leche again, not as frosting anyway. I made the cake balls and froze them for an hour while watching American Horror Story. When the show was over, I needed something to take my mind off of it so I went and decided to decorate the cake pops.
This is the result of Day 1: Cake pops- Meh! Too amateur for my taste!

The pops were too sweet. The sprinkles did not help that the cake was sweet and the Dulce de Leche is extremely sweet so they were a bit too difficult to eat. The ones without the sprinkles were better, though.
Day 2
On Day 2 I went to buy some more supplies. I realize I needed bowls, large spoons and some cookie cutters because I was determined to do some cupcake pops like the one that Bakerella is famous for. So that very night once husband was home and baby was in bed I went on trying to make the next badge of pops. This time I decided that I was going to use cream cheese frosting to lessen the sweetness on the pops. Once I had my crumbled cake ball I decided to make the tiny cupcakes with the flower cookie cutter. Well, the damn thing was too big and the tiny cupcakes would have ended like normal size cupcakes so, that idea flew right out the window. On to some normal cake pops.
This is the result of badge 2 on Day 2: Cake pops- Meh! still, less sweet a bit better!
| Badge 2: No cupcakes pops. |
They weren't as sweet as the first ones but the ones with sprinkles still tasted like you are biting on a sugar cube! Too much!
Day 3
On Day 3 I went to The Baker's Shop and shop for the right kind of sprinkles and white chocolate I found a smaller cookie cutter and some other great stuff! So there I went to make badge number 3. This time I used some other cake, one that was not so sweet, I used cream cheese frosting and no horrible sprinkles. I did make the tiny cupcakes and it wasn't so difficult, I loved how easy it was and since I was having guests over for dinner I just froze the cake balls and cupcakes for 30 minutes. They were perfect.
Just when I was about to start the dipping into chocolate and decorating I felt the earth move. Yes, it was an Earthquake a 6.8 earthquake that made my wine glasses jump on its place. I, of course, freaked out a bit when I saw my Christmas tree bouncing up and down and yelled to my husband to grab the baby and run out of the appartment. I tried to catch one of my cats but he ran away so I figured that if it got really bad my husband would run inside and bring both cats out safe. It wasn't necessary to do that. Once we were outside the earthquake was over! It lasted like 1 minute so in we went again. My mother called me, I called some friends to check on them and I went on to decorate. I decorate the whole badge with a bad case of shaking hands after earthquake syndrome so they do not look cool at all.
Here it is the result of badge number 3 on Day 3: Cake pops- A bit less than Meh! because they have cupcake shape and different colors. Some of them are cupcake bites and some cupcake pops.

The taste was amazing, though. I found the exact combo for the cake and frosting. I loved how they taste. My husband loved the taste and the look. My guests loved them too! They event took the remaining ones to their house for later.
Summary: I CAN make cake pops, earthquakes make me shaky and I need to stay away from generic sprinkles.
Not too bad for someone that did not use an oven!
